2019 has a lot for us to look forward to in the gaming space. Doesn’t matter if it’s a sequel from your favorite franchise to an indie game released by a studio, us gamers are always looking for an exciting new experience. The new year has tons of anticipated releases, the list is the top ten most anticipated games to be released in 2019.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite: Launch on IOS, Android
The explosive popularity of Pokemon Go and mobile first augmented reality games has prompted its team of talented creators to tackle another great franchise: Harry Potter. The team debuted a thirty-second teaser showing the interaction of a woman catching a golden snitch through the streets and alleys. The team has hinted over and over that the game will enjoy another level of complexity besides merely catching and interacting with beasts out in the wild. However, the degree to what this experience will look like is unknown. The release date has yet been officially confirmed, but fans are speculating of a mid-summer release similar to Pokemon Go to try to replicate previous success.
Resident Evil 2: Launch on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
The popular zombie-themed survival horror classic is getting a remake and fans are counting down for its release in late January. The remake will bring improved graphics, set & character design changes and overall upgrades for an all-new yet familiar experience. One of the most notable updates will be an “over the shoulder” point of view rather than a fixed camera. This modern take on the classic series will surely get its spot in one of the most anticipated games of 2019.
Last of Us Part 2: Launch on PlayStation 4
Does this require any explanation? Voted the most anticipated game by PlayStation Blog and The Game Awards, Last of Us Part 2 will finally be released after two years after it’s initial announcement. The E3 announcement in 2018 showed us face-paced gameplay with a familiar amount of gore similar to part 1 amplified with even more detailed graphics. With the limited details released from Naughty Dog, we can only keep hoping for the date to come around the corner. Last of Us is definitely the top contender within the community.
Days Gone: Launch on PlayStation 4
The survival horror game takes place in a post-apocalyptic open world. Players will experience a heart-jolting storyline consisting of Freakers, a “zombiesque”, violent mutated human as you traverse through the landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Like many survival games, preparation and crafting consist of a big part of the experience. Players will be able to craft useful items like weapons and medicine with resources you discover in the open world. Although Days Gone will only allow for single player experience, the Freakers will likely keep you right on the edge of your seat.
Mortal Kombat 11: Launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Another popular franchise will be returning in 2019 after a four-year development. The new Mortal Kombat emphasizes the ability to customize characters variations to bring a new level of control in the player’s control during the fights. Numerous pre-order bonuses are available for those who want to lock in their spot for its release.
Jump Force: Launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Jump force is another highly sought after game to be released in early 2019. The team fighting game combines the popular characters of the Shonen Jump Universe with each other to allow the player to interact with the anime classics. Characters from Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, Dragon Ball as part of 13 known series are confirmed to be part of the new release. Players are also allowed to customize unique characters with resources discovered in the gameplay.
Shenmue 3: Launch on PC, PlayStation 4
The long awaited sequel concluded it’s three-year-long crowdfunding campaign and is on its way to release for mid-2019. The long-awaited action-adventure game takes place in Bailu Village in Guilin, China as a continuation to Ryo, the main character’s pursuit of his father’s killer. Fans of the game will enjoy the numerous expansion of the missions and maps as a result of the successful campaign. The release of Shenmue 3 will likely not conclude the sequel as hinted by the team, but will definitely be one of the hot releases of the year.
The Outerworlds: Launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
The action-role-playing game takes the player through a glimpse of the world after large corporations have taken over. The first person RPG is amplified with the use of detailed graphics of intergalactic travel and the sci-fi-like world. We already know a fair bit about the game as well as other characters, combat, and skillset experiences, but have yet been given an accurate release date. Regardless, with the reputable pedigree of the development team, The Outer Worlds has not failed at attracting excitement of the release sometime in 2019.
Devil May Cry 5: Launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
After almost a decade of waiting, the fans of Devil May Cry may finally rest easy knowing the release of the sequel is coming up. Devil May Cry 5 takes place after the events of the fourth and second part of the series and is a familiar balance of story, style, and absolute kick-ass characters. The stylish gameplay and captivating graphics have made the series a fan favorite amongst technophiles. What a glorious return for an absolute banger!
Kingdom Hearts 3: Launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Another popular franchise has joined forces with an equally impressive partner (Disney) to form a new world and gameplay like no other. The action role-playing game combines the familiar characters such as Sora, Riku, Kairi with new Disney characters alongside as protagonists. The premise takes place after the Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and continues their search for the seven Guardians of Light. Players should expect engaging twists throughout the gameplay, incorporating various Disney and Pixar properties like Disney Park attractions and mini-games inspired by the classic Mickey Mouse cartoons.
The sheer number of great hits and returning franchises for console, mobile and desktop gamers will make 2019 a busy year for us. Much like 2018, many highly anticipated games will finally make ways to the player’s hands.
